There are many ways to change an image to a cartoon-like look in Photoshop. A technique I found that seems accurate and simple is by using a drawing tablet along with the pen tool. Also, this process might be difficult for the first time but once you get used to it, it’s like drawing with your own hands. This is the end result:

    To start, open your image in Photoshop CS4, any image is fine but I recommend an image that is not highly detailed. As an example, I used a woman’s outline for this tutorial; I will not be able to show you the original image because it is lost. But basically, make a new an empty layer – make sure its highlighted and then use the pen tool to follow the outline of the image, it is tedious so just be patient, try to zoom in so that you can see the edges. Once you made a selection, click the pencil tool and change the size to 13, then go back to the pen tool and right-click and choose stroke path, make sure the stimulate pressure checkbox is checked. This will create a simple line drawing here is my example:

    Now that we created a basic structure for our image, we can color areas of our image. Same as the line drawing, use the pen tool to select a portion of your image to colour, change the foreground colour to suit your needs, then right-click and choose fill path; this will fill the selected area with the foreground color. To make your image look 3-D you must have 3 colours in total, these are the base, shadows and higlights, you can define the highlight by adjusting the base color so that it is lighter and vice versa with shadows. Then, it is up to you to decide where the shadows and higlights will be. The final product:

    We start by opening the photo that needs editing, to do that go to file and open. We must assess the areas that need correction or else we destroy the image or made it worse. If you want to remove blemish, red blotches, scars, bruises, etc, we use the healing brush tool which is located on the left hand side. Apply a modest amount when using the healing brush tool because it can distort the image. You can also choose the clone stamp tool; it will copy the color and then apply it to the section that you want.

Color Correction

    Open the image in Photoshop, notice if it has color cast, unbalanced shadows, higlights, and midtones.Then, we can change the brightness of the image by going to Image>Adjustments>Levels, adjust the midtones, if you want a darker image move it to the right side and if you want it brighter go to the opposite direction. Also, we can adjust if there is a color cast, example if the image is too green or too blue. Go to Image>Adjustments>Curves, click on the line; this will add dots that we can reconfigure to remove the color cast.

Photoshop is a useful application in creating any graphic-based materials such as posters, book covers, art works and websites. To start, look for a good image to use for your website, I recommend something you can divide into three or more parts; you must have a header, a body and a navigation menu. Here is an example:

Once you have your image layout, you can use the slice tool on the tool bar in Photoshop. Then, simply slice through the sections that you want your header, navigation and content, and other parts that you want some changes. After you have all your slices, double-click on the number of the slice and rename it so that you know which slice is which, like this:

And then, you must save everything in a webpage format or else all your work is for nothing. To do this, go to file and save for web, this will open an option box so that you can modify the type of webpage it is. You can click on the edit output settings if you want your website to be an HTML or a CSS, either way you can expect to have the same result in layout. And the rest of technical writing is up to you, to suit your needs. Here is a good step-by-step process:

     Before writing a good composition, you must first design its structure. In doing so, it acts as a template that you can go over with if you are stuck. But this does not mean that you are fixated with the design, only that it can help you work your way through a solid foundation. To begin the process, brainstorm ideas that come up in mind – avoid criticizing and judging because it could be done on the next step.

Scan and Tweak

     Scan through the final composition and tweak the area that needs extra effort or is lacking of relevancy. It is wise to use applications that can thoroughly check your work; this may save you some time and effort. Depending on your preference, whether you like working through a printed document or on the screen, the important thing is to explore different angles to improve your composition.

Be concise

     Most of the time, you need to be concise so that is easier to convey your message. But, that is not the case in other writers who uses obscurity in their writing. And to be concise, you need to know your goal and the audience. If you get stuck in a sentence, it is better to start anew. Usually you could have mistakes trying to prove a point, so you should break the sentences apart in two or more sentences. And the point is not to be wishy-washy, but strong and affirmative.

Some things to consider:

• Provide negative spaces for the reader
• Apply images in the appropriate places
• Show your reference

    The bad type of branding contains bland or vague experience, awkward connection to the audience, a couple of irrelevant information. These types usually fails to engage the audience in interpreting what the brand is, we often forget what the logo looks like or the brand title. To make matters worse, some of these brands have limited source of information; this is bad for us because they are suppose to make things easier for the customer.

    The ugly type of branding does not have anything recognizable and is not appealing to the audience. This type of branding is actually rare now because of lack of professionalism. And these brands are the exact opposite of good branding and worst than the bad ones.  It is basically an exaggeration of an identity and an unfamiliar representation of branding.

     Although social networking is an advantage for most of us, I believe that it also has its own disadvantages, an example is security. If you had been sharing all sorts of information about yourself without filtering very personal things, your security could be compromise quite easily. Because the web is a public domain, there is without a doubt a person or people who will take advantage of it. There are many articles about identity thefts – fraud that involves stealing money or other benefits which is hard to ignore, if your identity is compromise it will be difficult to try and get it back, because of lack of evidence. Misuse of these freedoms that is offered by the social networking service is taken seriously and so there is no surprise to the amount of penalty which is applied. I think the more information that you provide, the easier your security can be breached.

    Furthermore, I believe social networking will continue to develop because of its advantage of having web-like structure of connectivity. In addition, it created opportunities for example; academic commentators to pursue studies and surveys that might be beneficial for the society and Social science researchers study its impact. It has come a long way since the first efforts is introduced in “online communities such as The WELL in 1985, Theglobe.com 1994, Geocities 1994 and Tripod 1995”; Wikipedia.  From then on, the number of users that use social networking has doubled; I expect it will increase further in two or more years. The downside to this is it can be use by government officials or lawyers against a person being persecuted, in fact many evidence is revealed by looking at someone’s profile in Facebook, it might not be straight-forward but there are links. In summary, social networking is as valuable as it is fragile, if used wisely it is a great tool to enjoy.
